Greetings Washington Families:
It is with great pride and enthusiasm that I write this letter of introduction to you as the newly appointed Principal of Washington Elementary School for the 2015-2016 school year. I come to you with over fifteen years of experience-which include ten years of teaching right here at Washington! During my tenure, I have spent a great deal of my time working on district committees, supporting new curriculum initiatives and developing student growth opportunities. My recent administrative experience has been shaped by two years of successful leadership as a building based Literacy Supervisor at Charles H. Stillman Elementary School in Plainfield. Throughout my years in education, I have always remained current and will always promote best practices for students and successful schools. I am so elated to bring all of my experiences back to a place that is near and dear to my heart.
Along with staff, I will work hard to establish a legacy of success by building strong relationships with parents, students, staff, and community partners. We will focus on character education practices, developing 21st Century skills, fostering a nurturing and safe environment, and consistent professional development to increase student achievement.
In my past experiences, I have found that students really appreciate a person who genuinely invests in them and who is fair in decision making. It is very important to me to be in the hallways, classrooms and on the playground so that I can participate in every facet of your child’s experience here at Washington.
With that in mind, you are invited to be an active participant at Washington School. Whether you are a classroom volunteer, a member of the PTO or another committee, or actively involved in your child’s learning at home, I encourage you to be our educational partner! Your child needs you and we need you!
Finally, I want you to know how blessed I feel to be a part of the Roselle community again. I truly feel like I am back home and I look forward to seeing each and every one of you in the weeks to come. My door is always open and I welcome your input to help make this the best year yet!
Mrs. Marianne Tankard
